Last November, I was stopped on the Pont d'Arcole by a girl who was doing a survey. She had one question and one question only: "Are you in love?" The magazine she worked for, French Glamour, hit newsstands last week. Let me just give you my response and then a made up Q and A, and then we will speak of this no more:
Glamour: Amoureuses?
Elisabeth, 27 ans, journaliste. Non.
Glamour: Are you in love?
Elisabeth: No. Well maybe. (editor's note: Were
there ever three words that sum up Elisabeth better than those three
words? No. I mean Yes! I mean, weeell….) But the feeling isn't
mutual so I'm trying not to get too wrapped up. I only fall in love if I
know things will work out. (ed note: Wow, we are getting, like, so
deep.) Also, I don't mind being single so much because, unlike some
girls who always feel the need to go from one relationship to another,
I'm okay with being alone. (ed note: This is 100% true. Except for
all those times that I so want a boyfriend.)
And now, The Part Where I Interview Myself Somewhat Presumptuously In Anticipation of Questions That You, Dear Reader, Might Have
So what were you thinking, Madame Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve?
I
guess I was thinking about Dostoevksy. Or what I was going to have for lunch. Those are the two things I usually think about when I'm walking over the Pont d'Arcole
and someone asks me if I'm in love. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS
THINKING.
Any chance of knowing who this person you liked was?
Not on your life.
Is it just me, or do you look like you're about to cry in this picture?
I
was moving apartments the next day and on my way to BHV to buy
cardboard boxes. But I figured even with sore feet and a stomach full
of stress, I could pull off a good photo. Did you know that I'm
usually pretty photogenic? Every time I take a bad picture, I shrug
and say, "Huh, I'm usually pretty photogenic." Weird, I've been saying
that a lot lately.
So, Miss Photogentastic, do you currently have a boyfriend?
Not to my knowledge.
Why don't you have a boyfriend?
Why do you have one?
Okay, we get it. Hey isn't that a big story about Petite Anglaise later in the magazine?
Yes!
She's so famous!
I know!
And man, how about that book deal of hers?
I know. I know.
And her picture looks great!
True.
Like seriously, her hair is amazing.
Well gee, you don't have to rub it in.
Sorry. One last question: do you like anyone right now?
Not falling for that one again.
We had to try. Okay, we're really happy you're in French Glamour; it's just so silly and random.
Agreed.
well, look at you. bona fide magazine star.
leave it to glamour to ask preposterous questions such as that one.

You've got the scarf-tying thing down, anyway. What's not to like about that?

E - Your writing and *pretend* interviews are fab. I interview myself all the time, but I'm never brave enough to actually post them. Love it!
La Coquette always makes me smile...
X to the O!

i was supposed to be on the news once about internet safety -- they asked if old men stalked me or something -- they cut me for the girl that said old men asked her on dates.

Yes! I knew this! I live in Australia but a friend recently returned from France, and gave me a whole stack of French magazines. Flipping through one of them, I WAS SO PROUD to "know" one of the people.

ooh I hope it's still on the newsstands when I land in Paris tomorrow morning... it's not every day one, let alone two, of my girls is in Glamour!
and I think Glamour would do well to let you write for them, just fyi.

Elisabeth, I thought you looked great in your picture! Really adorable shot.
And Maitresse, it's definitely still on the newsstands -- it's the May issue, so it only came out about 10 days ago or something like that... And I agree: I think La Coquette's fresh style would definitely add a little unique "peps" to the French Glamour!

I think you do look nice on the picture (maybe you are too self critical!) :-)

You were smart to wear that purple scarf. The eye goes right to your photo! Maybe this mysterious person will see you in the magazine and fall in love with you back.

Oh I love your blog. I minor in French and your entries in French are a lot more entertaining to read than any compulsory reading I have to do. Your blog should be on our set reading list.
