On Wednesday, you could have gone to the Colette 10 Years anniversary party,* or you could have read magazines and eaten microwaved quiche over at my place. (Or like my friend Rory, you could have done both.) Colette is amazing after all, but we had fun. Just saying.
Also, I serve Bague de Kenza for dessert. (And I play The Cure, too!)
*By the way, I’m always looking for excuses to link to the Colette site, designed by the good people at Spill. I really have a thing for those robots.
I was about to work for them 6 years ago (spill) when I realized that they are a little bit too "perches" to work efficiently...but nice people indeed (and nice workplace).

How funny. I've just been to their office once, but I think their work is so good!

Thanks for the shout-out Ms. Coquette. We appreciate it. Also, I wonder who Ms. Pink is (I also had to ask my colleagues what "perches" means :-).

delphine...
Posted by: delphine | 23 March 2007 at 04:43 PM
Nicholas, just wanted to see if you were paying attention. :) And the new site looks awesome. I remember about a year ago when you guys were playing This is the Dream of Win and Regine (on the homepage) -- I was on the site everyday until I finally just downloaded the song....
Delphine, the puces at Saint-Ouen, which is way overpriced, yeah, but I just lucked out and bargained.

Then curl up by the fire
And sleep for awhile
It's the grooviest thing
It's the perfect dream!

What a fabulous mirror! But...what's with the paper towels? A new centerpiece perhaps? At least you could have stuck some flowers in them!
Posted by: APat | 24 March 2007 at 01:04 AM
Sorry Nicholas, I did not mean any thing bad with my "perches" comm', just kiddin (hope it was clear)
I have always liked Spill's work, even though I am not really following what you guys are doing anymore.

this is completely unrelated to this post. i apologize, but i just read through all the archives this past week. i really love your blog. and lord yes, do i envy you. i have a fench degree doing nothing but gathering dust. there aren't too many people to practice my french on in south carolina. that said, i wanted to bring one thing to your attention, about the subjunctive, which i barely even understand. we do have that tense in english, but we are slowly "phasing" it out. when you say the sentence: "if i were rich..." the verb "were" is actually in the subjuctive tense. you'll notice most people these days use the alternative: "If I was rich.." which is becoming acceptable in english these days. sorry for the grammar lesson, just thought you'd like to know.
keep up the great posts! i enjoy them very much.

Jenni, I like it, the lesson I mean. Thanks!
J, something to do with being laid back, I think... Miss Pink, can you tell us? (Sorry Pink, you're probably wishing this conversation would just end) :)
Gypsy, done!

La Bague de Kenza? Their pastries are not that great, the only reason they are known is because they have good PRs.
Lebanese pastries (Noura, Feyrouz...) are much tastier and healthier (less fat, less sugar)!
Which Cure songs did you play? Killing (eating) an Arab? ;)
Posted by: Chrisos | 26 March 2007 at 01:20 AM
i might be tempted to sell my soul for a box of pastries that looks like that...
Posted by: katie | 26 March 2007 at 02:06 PM
Chrisos, where are the Lebanese shops you recommend? I'm always down for a good pastry.
Katie, you should see the *store.*
A Pat! I thought the paper towels were such a classy touch!

Hello,
I've never written to a blog before. While researching our trip I ran across several blog sites. Seems as if I'm invited to write to whoever is out there. I read that you packed up and moved one day on a whim. I can relate to such behavior but maybe not with equal abandon.
My wife and I are in our 50's and a somewhat adventurous. We'll be leaving March 28 for a week in Paris. I thougth I would ask somethings very simple but useful to us. We rented an apartment on "rue Dupetit-Thouars". I thought it might be in your area and you could help us.
Is there a simple food market in the area? The name?
We plan to avoid our normal eating menu. Can you recommend a meal to order at an eatery?
We like to eat a lunch of wine, cheese and bread while wondering. Can you recommend all three?
I hope I didn't intrude but I know nothing of blog edicate.

Hey,
Avoid les Délices d'Orient.
Noura (Av Marceau, Opéra, Montparnasse, http://noura.com/) is sure value (their pistachio, almond or date "maamool" are excellent).
In the 10th, Assanabel is fine:

Enjoy!

"Perche" (sorry I don't have french accents on my keyboard) initially meant "high on drugs" but you are right Coquette, what I meant is "laid-back, cool".

this is kind of random, but from the pictures above, I LOVE YOUR APARTMENT!!!!! if you've ever posted pictures of it online I would love the link to see it!

ouhou la coquette, it's been a while (I was stateside) but on the subject of good places to get authentic foods, Le Magasin Bleu on Rue Bleue in the 9th is Armenian and has great everything (dried fruit, nuts, yogurt, canned and bottled foods, and pastries!!) It doesn't have the PR that Bague de Kenza has but Chrisos is right, BdK is not the best middle eastern pastry place at all. There's also a fab Lebanese pastry shop in the 15th but I can't remember the name of it because I never look anymore. I'll try to find it.

I probably shouldn't browse blog entries if I'm already very hungry. If I didn't already know every pastry shop in Chicago was closed, I would aimlessly drive around in an attempt to find something similar these pastries. They look DELICIOUS. P.S. I adore your blog!
