The issue of Chicago Fashion that I worked on is out! (You can go to "Spring Fashion" to see the four stories I wrote. If you only have time to read one, I recommend “Liftoff,” my diary about wearing designer platform shoes from the spring runways for a week.)
I’ve talked about the general experience a bit already here.
The fantastic thing about being an assistant editor on a small-ish project is that, at some level, I had a hand in almost every editorial page of the magazine. Whether it was helping to call in clothes for a shoot, writing stories, editing the trend pages (the pages titled "Seventies" or "Schoolgirl Charm") or composing credits (the blurbs that say where you can buy such-and-such item).
Which is what made taking on a project like this so fun and challenging. I'm really proud of the final product.
(P.S. Thanks to Kathleen for making the scan.)

Love the articles. You have a great writing style (especially for the web), if I may wax editorial on ya. Clodhoppers scare me too...

congrats, so exciting to see the results of your work come together like that. Also love that the magazine used illustrations.

OH! This is fantastic!! How do I buy an actual magazine (or 10?) I want to get this to Lauren, my niece so she can see the rock star she hung out with last summer!
AM. SO. PROUD. of you. Bravo!

Thanks guys!
Andrea, I know the illustrator rocks. We saw her work in British ELLE and loved it.
Elizabeth, for Lauren? Mais bien sur we can get her one! Send me her address and I will take care of it.

How exciting! The platform article was fun, and oooh, those bags. I want a new bag now..
Posted by: Gloria | 01 March 2006 at 05:19 PM
Fabulous! You should be proud of your great work. You deserve to buy yourself another pair of shoes... and not at discount!
Posted by: Neil | 01 March 2006 at 05:23 PM
I loved the platform article as well, though at 5ft11 barefoot I have to say that I will only be living vicariously through it as well.
Huge congrats, Coquette.

Great article!!! I'm just impressed that you wore all those platforms during the winter in Chicago. Talk about treacherous!!!!
Posted by: katie | 01 March 2006 at 05:41 PM
Thank you for acknowledging that Katie. I got stuck walking home after a snowstorm in the Sergio Rossi platforms--inching along like a snail and slipping everywhere on the ice. My friend Jen thank god never stopped holding my elbow, or laughing when I flailed.
Oh, how I suffer for my art!
Posted by: Coquette | 01 March 2006 at 05:46 PM
Greedy me. I need to see pics of all of the shoes mentioned in the Liftoff article. I know a few were pictured in here, but do I need to google the rest? Fun articles - looking forward to buying the issue.

Another newbie here. I like your writing and your site. (Mignon!) I also like your Chicago fashion pages. Good photography, models and clothing. Did you shoot all that in Chicago?
Posted by: Alex Katsanos | 01 March 2006 at 08:02 PM
PLEASE tell us you got to keep the shoes (or at least one pair)!!!! I loves me some platforms and always buy lots of shoes when they are in!
Posted by: hellolizzie | 01 March 2006 at 10:10 PM
LOVE, love, love the articals and illustration. I am most impressed though that you made it an INTIRE week wearing platforms in the winter in Chicago! Bravo!

You have a way of writing which is so human, lovable, and entertaining to read. As a journalism student I can look up to you with big eyes and say: you have written some great articles.
And welcome back to Paris. If you ever want to go for some English conversation and Pierre Hermes pastries, get in touch with me.

YEAH! hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrah!
Posted by: beth | 02 March 2006 at 11:04 PM
The magazine looks awesome - I especially enjoyed the platform story (I have been wearing totally impractical shoes all winter in Chicago - but hey, sometimes you have to suffer for fabulous shoes!)
Your blog is great, I am so jealous you get to live in Paris!
Posted by: Fashionable Kiffen | 03 March 2006 at 12:18 AM

Wonderful articles Elisabeth!!! I am so happy for your success- could you write an article on cashmere panties soon? :)
Posted by: Noelle | 29 March 2006 at 04:56 AM
I just found your blog and so I've just read your article on platform shoes. Amusing. Then I read the fall 06 edition of the same mag -specifically the article on big bags . . It was a lift-off rip-off! The witless plagarist uses exact phrases from your spring article: "bad for my reputation," etc. Are you fuming?
Posted by: rhyme_child | 15 August 2006 at 07:05 PM
umm, yes. yes i am actually. i spent an inordinate amount of time on that particular piece. i am so surprised this was even allowed to HAPPEN. and hurt that no one from the magazine realized or has emailed me to apologize.
